Experimental Studies on the Adrenotropic Receptors of the Rat Uterus

Abstract
The author studied the property of adrenotropic receptors on the uterine muscle isolated from non-pregnant and pregnant rats, and the results obtained were summarized as follows:
1) The motility of the non-pregnant rat uterus was depressed by phenylephrine, norepinephrine,
epinephrine and isoproterenol.
2) The inhibitory effects of phenylephrine, norepinephrine, epinephrine and isoproterenol on the non-pregnant rat uterus were not affected by phenoxybenzamine, but blocked by propranolol.
3) It seemed that the non-pregnant rat uterine muscle had beta inhibitory receptor and alpha receptor, but it was unable to detect the nature whether alpha receptor was excitatory or inhibitory.
4) The effects of phenylephrine, norepinephrine, epinephrine and isoproterenol on the pregnant rat uterus revealed the different reactions according to the pregnant days.
5) The inhibitory effects of phenylephrine and norepinephrine on the pregnant rat uterus were blocked by phenoxybenzamine, but those of epinephrine and isoproterenol partially blocked.
6) The inhibitory effects of phenylephrine, norepinephrine, epinephrine and isoproterenol on the pregnant rat uterus were completely blocked by propranolol.
7) It seemed that the pregnant uterine muscle of rat had both alpha excitatory and beta inhibitory adrenergic receptors.
